New Hack Pro X58 @ 4 Gigs, GTX 280 x3, Asus P6T7 WS Revolution Supercomputer Mainboard + Snow Leopard!

The point of creating this machine was to provide the ability to fit 3 double slot Graphics cards into a Mac case. A Mac Pro was out of the question as with 2 DVD drives and a power supply up top - there is no way this can be fitted. However, the G5 has the space but lacks the quantity of slot outlets for the 7 PCIe sockets on a Asus P6T7 Mainboard.

Once again, my old friend the CoolerMaster "Wavemaster" Case provided the mounting for the Mainboard.

To run at 4 gigs on Aircooling would also require a fairly meaty heatsink, I looked around and the Coolermaster V10 seemed to fit the bill - this thing is massive and incorporates 2 x 120 mm fans!

To run those 3 Graphics cards would require a pretty good Power Supply and I found the Thermaltake 1250 Watt should do the trick, although it was stripped of it's case and built into the front of the G5 case. It also had a 140 mm fan so I hunted round for a couple more to use with this project. I found a couple of Yate Loon D14SL-12 1000RPM 140mm Fans from Tekheads that could be controlled by the bios to keep things quiet.

As this board offers one extra x1 clock multiplier than the official support from intel, some programs that access those details report a speed of 3.8 GHz. However - It is running at 4 Gigs quite happily and I have had it running at just under 4.2 GHz!

This system now uses 2 x Corsair Flash HDD's to hold Snow Leopard. The result of using just 1 drive was equivalent to a 4 drive raid setup, so when I raid 2 of these together things should really start to fly!
